Name: M5  ( Globular Star Cluster )

I only took a few images of M5 as I slew past it to image M17, looks like I need to revisit this target another night.

M5 comprises about 800,000 solar masses. It has a physical size of 150 light years. The age of the globular cluster is regarded as a lower limit to the age of the Universe. Earlier determinations were in conflict with temporary cosmological models. New cosmological models, based evidence for an accelerated expansion of the Universe, now suggest an older cosmos. At the same time, recent distance measurements of globular clusters, using the Hipparcos satellite, suggest larger distances, which result in younger cluster ages. M5 is one of the youngest objects of its kind in the Milky Way.
